Staffars läser Previews 21:02
Välkommen till vår första genomgång på ett år av vad som finns med i Previews.
Ett par saker innan vi startar. Det här är resultatet av vår första genomläsning av Previews, vilket innebär att det finns möjligheten att vi noterar saker som vi inte kommer att ta in till butiken av en eller annan anledning. är det något som verkar lovande är det mycket rekommenderat att ni skickar in en beställning till butiken. När detta skrivs så tar vi vanligtvis 10,00 kr/$ men det kan ändras rätt snabbt beroende på svängningar i valutakursen, det ger dock ett visst hum om vad tidningarna och albumen kommer att kosta.
För att göra det lätt för oss så har vi följt Previews indelning av förlag.
Med det avklarat hoppar vi raskt till katalogen för tidningar och album som är tänkta att dyka upp i med början i april med fortsättning in i juni

Dark Horse återlanserar sin första titel och de gör det med en stjärnuppsättning av skapare. Jag är mest glad åt att se att Paul Chadwicks Concret kommer med nya serier, då jag är fullkomligt förälskad i den seriens stämning och inte minst Chadwicks otroligt stämningsfulla teckningar. Jag är dessutom nyfiken på vad Howard Chaykin hittar om det är något som han har fått helt fria händer till att göra. Annars så är det en hel del som jag undrar över som t ex kommer vi att återse gamla DHP-favoriter som the Creep, Roachmill eller kanske till och med Black Cross. Ett varnings finger måste räckas för förhållandet pris/sidantal som är lite väl hög. Vi får även se om det kommer att komma några oväntade debutanter som överaskar positivt.

Dark Horse fortsätter att ge ut udda SF-serier med Hernandez bröder, trevlig nog är det Mario som skriver den här gången, något som vi ser alltför sällan. Sedan måste jag nämna att det är lite undehållande att se Mario och Gilbert benämns som Los Bros Hernandez (och Jaime som den "tredje" brorsan) i säljtexten.

DC har dragit ut på det i en evighet men nu verkar de äntligen ta och lansera en reguljär titel med den nya lesbiska Batwoman. #0 var otroligt vackert tecknat av JH Williams och jag förväntar mig inget annat i fortsättningen. Får se hur de håller upp gaytemat eller om det degenerar ned i fanboy-service. Hittills har de klarat sig bra tycker jag.

Jag minns detta som en lite udda period i Legion of Super-Heroes eller kanske snarare en ny variant av Keith Giffens Legion-historier från 80-talet. Lite mörkare, mycket mer skrovligt tecknat och rätt ifrågasatt av de Legion-fans som ville ha den mer positiva framtidstron som serien vanligtvis haft.

På tal om Legion kommer här klassiska Legion-författaren (och tidigare högsta hönset på DC) Paul Levitz reboot på serien. Det är lite skönt att han inte fortsätter där han slutade en gång i tiden utan gör något nytt även om han knyter an och gör nya historier av klassiska äventyr.

Kära DC, jag vet att vi inte stöttat Vertigo Crime-böckerna särskilt mycket hitintills; till viss del beror det på att de första varken var Crime eller (särskilt) bra, men det skulle vara bra om ni talar om vilka serier som tecknaren har gjort och inte bara visar upp omslaget av en annan – visserligen väldigt trevlig – teckare. När jag googlade Donaldson så kom det fram att han gjort den väldigt snygga (och bra!) Supermarket tillsammans med Brian Wood. Det innebär att vi nu är betydligt mer intresserade av den här boken än annars. Tror

WE3 har varit en av de där Grant Morrison-serierna som folk upptäckt stötvis, först säljer man ingenting, sedan säljer man en drös. Och så säljer man ingenting och sedan en drös. Det är lite kul att den kommer ut i en lite uppsnoffsad utgåva med, ja, extra sidor så att alla fans måste köpa en ny dyrare utgåva. Mohohohohohahahaha

Ho ho, Bat Boy, Weekly World News "fiktiva" figurs äventyr tecknades ned av ingen mindre än Peter Bagge. Detta är givetvis ett journalistisk epos av tabloidformat. Ingen annan tidning har större, uhm, trovärdghet än just WWN och när de säger att Bat Boy har synts tillsammans med Li'l Kim måste man bara tro det, så det så.

D&Qs utgivning av vuxenmanga har varit ömsom, vin ömsom vatten hitintills. Det här verkar vara en riktigt robust Cabernet Sauvignon. Just att den är semibiografisk som får mig att hoppas på något riktigt bra. Det öppnar för att man ser lite längre än sitt eget öde och har något större att berätta om. Och fotsoldaters historia i den japanska armén har i alla fall jag läst för lite om.

Oj oj, nu blir det seriklassiker så det smäller om det! Floyd Gottfredsons Mickey Mouse har egentligen aldrig samlats i en kronologisk utgåva i USA, trots att den är en av de stora, klassiska äventyrsserierna. Intressant är att förlaget utlovar en komplett utgåva från starten, något som förvånar mig lite eftersom några av de tidiga stripparna speglar dåtidens oupplysta åsikter om raser, vilket brukar leda till kontroverser (se t.ex. Tintin i Kongo eller för den delen, Huckleberry Finns äventyr). Staffar skulle kunna skriva essäer om den här serien, vilket han förhoppningsvis gör när den kommer ut.

Fantagraphics fortsätter sin Jason-utgivning. Det är otroligt kul att se att han plockar upp en författare den här gången. Omslaget och bilderna ger mig vibbar av Lewis Trondheims piratserier och det ger mersmak. Lättsmällt underhållning har vi för lite av i serievärlden just nu.

Okej, det här är den konstigaste reprinten jag sett på länge. Serieversionen av en gammal TV-serie i en deluxe-utgåva. Jo, några riktigt trevliga tecknare – framför allt Russ Manning och Dan Spiegle – men ändå: varför ges den här ut?

Till skillnad från My Favorite Martian förstår jag absolut varför det här ges ut. Male Call var en serie för bassarna under andra världskriget. Något att drömma om och att skratta åt, speciellt när huvudkaraktären kallade bassar för generaler och dessutom snubbade riktiga generaler. Den här boken är mitt mest självklara köp den här månaden, speciellt som jag missade att plocka upp Kitchen Sink-utgåvan. Popkulturhistoria som alla WW2 fanatiker bör ta en titt på.

Den här blir jag intresserad av att läsa. Även om jag inte riktigt förstår om utnämningen till ett av fem essentiella album av Angoulemefestivalen gäller rent allmänt eller bara för det året. Det hela är ännu ett i genren självupplevda hemskheter. Den här gången är det anorexia som behandlas.
